IMPACT I The UnLearning Children Foundation

Helping, Uplifting, Guiding

Africa has the highest suicide rates globally according to the World Health Organization.

The UnLearning Children Foundation is dedicated to reducing the alarmingly high suicide rates among young people on the continent—because every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, not just survive.

We’re all about UnLearning what society has taught our children about how they should feel, think, and act. We’re here to help them re-learn what it means to live fully, bravely, and with purpose. Together, we can create a future where young people can confront life’s challenges with strength, confidence, and support.

Our Mission

To uplift youth, one life at a time

At The UnLearning Children Foundation, we believe that mental health is as important as physical health, and it’s time for us to start unlearning the stigma around seeking support.

We want to make mental health care accessible to every child in Africa, because we know that by redefining the narrative, we can save lives and bring hope to a generation that needs it more than ever.

What we do

We don’t just talk about change—we create it. Here’s how we’re putting our vision into action:

UnLearning Days

Equipping students with tools for mental wellness

We’re unlearning the old ways of dealing with mental health—and teaching students how to relearn how to take care of themselves.

Our UnLearning Days are held at schools nationwide, where we share practical mental health strategies with Grade 8 and 9 students. These aren’t just workshops; they’re transformative experiences that empower young people to cope with the pressures of life, school, and relationships. It’s about empowering youth to confidently face challenges head-on, knowing they have the tools to manage their mental wellness.

Placing mental health professionals in schools

Too many schools across Africa don’t have the mental health resources they need. So we’re stepping up to help. We place qualified mental health professionals in schools that lack the capacity to offer support, ensuring that every child has access to someone who can help them navigate the tough stuff.

These professionals are more than just counsellors—they’re the anchors young people need to weather the storms they face.

Why we do it

Every child deserves a chance to live fully, to feel valued, and to know they are not alone. By focusing on early intervention, mental health education, and community support, we’re creating a future where children don’t have to face their struggles in isolation. We’re committed to showing them that life is worth living, and tomorrow is worth fighting for.

Join us in making a difference

We can’t do it alone—together, we can make a real impact. Whether you’re a partner, volunteer, or donor, we’d love to have you on board as we work to unlearn the damaging beliefs that limit our children’s potential and relearn what it means to support them through life’s challenges.
